Kathi Turner

Hello from Texas and me, Kathi, mother of one grown up son, and “mommy” through the years to a number of adopted dogs and one cat.  Currently, there are three dogs in my life to keep me busy and active, including two beautiful white Akita’s and a Chi-Weenie. As you might guess, the little one thinks she is the queen of the pack.

My son is my joy. He makes me quite proud as he follows his passion for flying as a professional pilot.  He was 2 ½ when his father and I divorced.  He has seen me through graduate school (twice), several start-up businesses, and the crazy hours of psychiatric social work. We were a team, backed by the “Village” of family and friends to support us and guide us along the way. I believe everyone needs a “Village” to raise a child.

When Becky and I were introduced, we quickly found a number of shared interests and experiences, even though our lives have been quite different. Besides our love of dogs and experiences as single parents, we are both coaches and have found we share many values and beliefs, especially related to serving families touched by adoption.

My journey in adoption social work started with writing kinship home studies for Child Protective Services for placement of children with family members while their parents worked their services. That led to opportunities to do home studies for domestic and international adoptions, along with step-parent adoptions, which I have continued to do for over 20 years. In recent years, I have also provided counseling for birth parents prior to their final decision to place, which added valuable perspective in the whole adoption experience.

I am a licensed clinical social worker and have worked in the mental health field for over 30 years. I have a private practice now, counseling individuals and families. I discovered life coaching several years ago, finding that discipline to be an excellent fit for my beliefs and my experience. Focusing my coaching on adoption issues, including working with all stages of unplanned pregnancy and after, was a natural transition. I have become very invested in serving people touched by this life-changing experience. I have absolute respect for each person and their life story.

Becky and I share a love of writing and journaling. Writing has been a true gift to me in my adult life. I seem drawn to it when I need to work through intense things going on in my life. That being said, writing when things are more normal has provided me with some amazing insights as well.

All of these experiences, coaching, counseling, and adoption social work, as well as being a mother, set the stage for Already My Child and for what Becky and I offer in our classes, newsletters, and blog posts.

Most people going through the adoption process have 20,000 questions and 30,000 worries. We believe, with our combined skills and experiences, we have a powerful medium through writing to help you face the worries and answer many questions. I look forward to our time together writing.
